The project aimed to perform the metagenomic analysis of permafrost microbial community was initiated in TSU last year. The idea was suggested by Sergei Nuzhdin, Professor at the University of Southern California (USA), a leading expert in the field of environmental and evolutionary sequencing.

Until now, no one has studied microorganisms from the permafrost of Western Siberia using molecular genetic methods. After the metagenomic analysisof frozen peats, the scientists will carry out the study of the botanical composition of peat colonies (under the direction of Irina Volkova) and biochemical analysis (in the laboratory headed by Oleg Pokrovsky).
